Nothing gives you a sense of place and welcome than a city that makes their footways look like carpets.

Often patterned on themes of Portugal’s maritime history, they are worn smooth by millions of footsteps.

Perilous because suitcases or anything with wheels either get caught in them or get shaken to bits.

You have to always watch your step for gaps and missing cobblestones too. But in doing so, there is a little fillip to your journey on discovery of new patterns.

    1. No rain Clara! They are polished by a bazillion footsteps! Haven’t seen rain for the whole trip.
